KNOW WHEN TO SCREEN FOR PREDIABETES

Being in control of your health starts with a trip to your Doctor. There are certain risk factors that could increase your chances of having or developing prediabetes or type II diabetes.

All adults who are overweight or obese with a body mass index of 25 or greater;
or have at least 1 of the following risk factors

  • 1st degree relative with type II diabetes
  • High-risk ethnic group: black, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, or Pacific Islander
  • History of cardiovascular disease
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol

Everyone with these risk factors should be screened every 3 years as long as test results are normal. Ask your doctor about blood glucose screening if you have any risk factors for prediabetes.
