Women’s Health: More Than Mammograms – A Total You Approach to Wellness This May

women's health May 12, 2025

May is Women’s Health Month, a national reminder to prioritize the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of women everywhere.

At LaRocca Medical, we believe that women’s health is about more than just checkboxes and screenings—it’s about seeing the whole person and helping each woman feel heard, supported, and empowered in her health journey.

Whether you're in your 30s or your 70s, it’s never too early—or too late—to start making yourself a priority.

Looking Beyond the Basics

Of course, things like mammograms, Pap smears, and bone density scans are important. But good care also means:

  • Making space to talk about fatigue, weight changes, and mood

  • Understanding how hormones affect your day-to-day life

  • Catching early signs of chronic issues like high blood pressure or diabetes

  • Supporting your mental health and emotional well-being

We believe your health story is more than a checklist.

Understanding Hormonal Changes: Pre, Peri, and Post-Menopause

Hormonal health can feel confusing—and often, it gets brushed off. But understanding where you are on the menopause spectrum can help you make sense of what your body is telling you.

  • Pre-menopause: You’re still having regular periods, but maybe you’re noticing changes in energy, sleep, mood, or metabolism. This is a good time to get baseline labs and talk about how to support long-term hormone balance.

  • Peri-menopause: This transitional time—often starting in your 40s—can bring irregular cycles, hot flashes, irritability, brain fog, or trouble sleeping. It can last several years. Even if you're still having periods, your hormones might be shifting underneath the surface.

  • Post-menopause: Once you've gone 12 months without a period, you're considered post-menopausal. That doesn’t mean the symptoms disappear. Now’s the time to focus on bone health, heart protection, and quality of life.

Wherever you are, there are options—sometimes it's lifestyle changes or supplements, sometimes it's hormone therapy, sometimes it's just finally having your concerns taken seriously.

Make May the Month You Come First

Whether you’re in your 30s or your 70s, health care should feel like something you’re part of, not something done to you.

If you’ve been putting off conversations or wondering whether what you’re feeling is “normal”—this is a great time to check in with a provider who listens.

And while May focuses on women, we’ll be highlighting Men’s Health in June—because everyone deserves care that sees the full picture.

What can you do this May?

  • Schedule that appointment you’ve been meaning to

  • Talk openly about symptoms that don’t feel quite right

  • Ask questions—your concerns are valid

  • Take one small step toward feeling better, whatever that looks like for you

We're here to support you through it all—one step, one season, one conversation at a time.
